The Under 18 girls set out on their England Hockey knock out cup campaign this weekend with a really tough first round draw away to Old Loughtonians in Chigwell, Essex.  Unfortunately the squad had been somewhat depleted by the time the match day came, with one player badly concussed training during the week, another splitting her head during a match Saturday and finally one falling ill on Saturday night.  So the girls started the match with only 11 players  not the full strength squad originally planned.  However the match got off to a great start and Sevenoaks piled on the pressure and should have been 2 goals ahead in the first 10 minutes!  Unfortunately it was Old Loughts who converted first with a strong break away goal which Sevenoaks were not able to react to quick enough.  Soon after this they scored again but in between time keeper Zara Evenden pulled of some amazing saves, top left right and above her head.  Sevenoaks continued to have their own chances to score and finally one of these made it into the goal after some good team work Olivia Sherwen made no mistake in making sure it made it over the line.  Old Loughts scored once again on the break but then Sevenoaks scored again through hard working centre forward Charlotte Henderson. Tiredness then began to show and Sevenoaks once again allowed Old Loughts to convert another chance just before half time.

The team were relieved to see the arrival of Yas Thomas at half time as forward Katie Purkiss was now feeling poorly and needed to be replaced.  A change of formation seemed to make a difference in the second  half and Sevenoaks really stepped up and played some superb passing hockey and defedners Izzy Goodwin and Lucy Jackson stepped in early and took greater control of the defence..  The team were soon rewarded when a fine move involving Jo Hudson, Perdy Knight and Daisy Loveland saw Olivia Sherwen calmly score her second goal of the match.  Soon after this a penalty corner shot from Jo Hudson was blocked but she quickly followed up on this passing it to Yas Thomas on the post who slotted it past a stranded keeper to give Sevenoaks their  strongest positons of the match with the score being 6 -4  at this stage!  However despite lots more great team work and real hard grind Sevenoaks were unable to score more and Old Loughts converted two more one form a penalty flick and one from another quick break to make the final score 8 – 4 to Old Loughtonians.
