End of season report

It has been a great season for all the boys in the U14 age group. We have been able to run two full competition sides and partake in the England Hockey Cup at the same time.

The A team played in the Mercian Premier league for the first time.  It proved to be an excellent experience playing against top clubs in the country such as Surbiton, Reading, Canterbury etc.; very similar to the Mens 1st XI coming season.  The team’s overall record was 8 matches played with 4 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses.  The team finished 4th and clearly retains the club’s position in this league.

The B team played in the Mercian Development East league.  It was a very successful year with excellent effort in all matches. The team won the league with 8 matches played with 5 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss.  A better record than the A team!

The EH Cup run came to an end in the Regional competition.  After a comfortable win in the first match and a very early goal in our favour during the second match, we unfortunately gave the advantage away in the second half and lost 2-1.  Had we only drawn that one, we would have made it to the Nationals as we ultimately had a better goal difference than the winner (after both teams won their third match).   Clearly an objective for next year’s team to make it to the Nationals.

See below a photo of the prize winners for most improved players (U13 Michael Lamstaes, U14 Lance Abbott) and most valuable players of the season (U13 Jasper Phillips, U14 Paul van Velsen) as well as the Mary Russel Vickers award (Adam Scarlett). Special mention for Michael Lamstaes who also won the junior section most improved player of the year award.
